Lifestyle And Home Remedies For Periodontitis

Periodontitis is a dental condition that impacts the gums and other structural parts of the teeth. There are several lifestyle changes and home remedies to manage periodontitis. Proper oral hygiene and a healthy diet are some lifestyle changes for periodontitis. Techniques like oil pulling, salt water rinse, and mouthwash can clear periodontitis in its early stages. You are supposed to spit, not swallow the solution. Where the symptoms persist, seeking professional help is also advised.

Dental Care And Healthy Diet

Dental care involves maintaining a frequent brushing and flossing routine. Additionally, using the right technique, fluoride toothpaste, and a soft-bristled brush goes a long way in dental care. It is also important to include a microbial mouthwash in your brushing routine. Also, visiting the dentist regularly is key. Lifestyle changes like reducing sugar intake are recommended. Replace foods high in carbohydrates and sugar with a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, lean proteins, and whole grains.

Oil Pulling

Coconut oil can be used as a home remedy. This is through a practice called oil pulling. Oil pulling involves gurgling coconut oil in your mouth daily. This is done to get rid of plaque and tartar in the mouth. Coconut oil also contains antibacterial properties that kill the bacteria responsible for periodontitis.

Salt Water Rinse

Salt water reduces inflammation, gets rid of bad breath, and kills bacteria in the mouth. To make a saltwater solution, add a teaspoon of salt to a glass of water and gurgle it around your mouth for half a minute.

Mouthwash Options

There are several mouthwash options to consider for home remedies. Diluted lemongrass essential oil is very effective in getting rid of plaque and tartar. Diluted tea tree oil and Aloe Vera solution can also be used as a mouthwash.

Turmeric Application

Turmeric contains a chemical compound that has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. This substance is called curcumin. By applying turmeric on the teeth’s surface at least twice daily, one can reduce plaque and reduce gum inflammation.
