Can Periodontal Disease Lead To Tooth Loss?

Can Periodontal Disease Lead To Tooth Loss?Did you know that periodontal disease can lead to tooth loss? It's an oral condition that affects the gums and bones around the teeth, and if it's not treated, it can cause severe damage. This blog will discuss the link between periodontal disease and tooth loss and some of the warning signs you should look out for. Here are some helpful tips on preventing periodontal disease from leading to tooth loss.

Bleeding Gums

Gums are pink in color and firm, not red and swollen. If your gums are bleeding, it could signify periodontal disease. This oral condition is an infection of the gums that can eventually lead to tooth loss. The primary stage of periodontal disease is called gingivitis. Gingivitis is when the gums are red, swollen, and bleed easily. If you get gingivitis, your gums may be sensitive to brushing or flossing. However, the disease is reversible at this stage and can be treated with a professional cleaning and good oral hygiene at home.

Receding Gums

Gums pulled away from the teeth are a sign of periodontal disease. As the gums recede, they create pockets between the gum line and the teeth. The pockets fill with bacteria and become infected. The infection destroys the bone around the teeth and eventually leads to tooth loss. You must see a dentist if you are experiencing any symptoms. They will be able to diagnose the problem and recommend a treatment plan.

Toothache

Periodontitis can make teeth become loose and fall out. The inflammation of the gums can also lead to pain in the teeth, which is called a toothache. You must see an experienced dentist immediately if you have periodontitis and experience a toothache.

There are many signs of periodontal disease. Some most common signs are gingivitis, bleeding gums, and receding gums. Call our expert dentists for a checkup if you have any of these symptoms.
