Tips For Care After A Deep Gum CleaningYou are about to undergo a deep gum cleaning, which sounds alarming. However, a deep gum cleaning benefits your teeth and gum, and may even save them. If you are going to have a deep gum cleaning, there are some tips you need to know. Keep reading for more aftercare tips after a gum cleaning.

What Is a Deep Gum Cleaning?

Deep gum cleaning is also called scaling. With a deep gum cleaning, the dentist will clean your gums above and underneath the gumline. There are several tools a dentist can use to deep clean your gums. For example, your dentist may use lasers to clean your gums.

Deep cleaning is necessary for people who have periodontal- or gum- disease. That's because, with gum disease, spaces or pockets open up between your teeth and gums. Over time, those pockets become a trap for food particles and bacteria, which can make gum disease worse.

Aftercare

After you have had a deep gum cleaning, you need to take care of yourself as well as your gums. First, ask your dentist about aftercare instructions, because chances are you'll be able to get a lot of your questions answered with the instructions.

Next, you'll want to take over-the-counter pain medication to manage your pain. Be sure that you have some medication on hand with you if you are going back to work.

Be kind to your mouth after a deep gum cleaning. Sip broth, jello, or tea. Be sure that your food is not too hot or too cold, because that might hurt your mouth.

Most importantly, you'll want to take any medications the dentist gave you, especially if it is a prescription for antibiotics. Those antibiotics will make it less likely you'll get an infection.

This Doctor is a true healer!

Dr. Bembey is truly a healer. Not one of those Doctors who is in it for the money. You can tell that she loves her job. She actually made it enjoyable, and I don’t normally think of gum surgery as something to enjoy. She is very knowledgeable, and her skills are awesome! She communicates well and tells you small details that really help a lot. And she is there for you if you need her. Most importantly, she saved me from loosing my teeth! This Doctor is a GEM!!! I highly recommend her.
