Fighting Gum Disease With LANAP

Posted on 1/9/2023 by Dr. Bembey and Dr. Yokoyama
Fighting Gum Disease With LANAPFor the last 50 years, dentists have been treating gum disease with a scalpel. Patients dreaded the deep cleaning of teeth and gum tissue that treated the disease but was painful and required time to heal.

If you are living in fear of gum disease, you're in luck. The LANAP procedure, or laser-assisted new attachment procedure, is now the gold standard for treating gum disease. Here's some more information about the LANAP procedure and how it treats gum disease.

The Stages of Gum Disease

There are three stages of periodontal disease. In Stage One, called gingivitis, your gums may be red, puffy, or inflamed.

Luckily, in Stage One of periodontal disease, the disease is curable through conscientious cleaning and flossing as well as regular dental visits.

Stages Two and Three are called periodontitis and advanced periodontitis. With periodontitis, pockets develop between your teeth and gums.

These pockets can trap bacteria and bits of food in between your teeth and gum tissue, which can actually accelerate the disease's progress. If you don't get your gums deep cleaned and treated for gum disease, you risk losing your teeth and gum tissue.

How Can LANAP Help?

Many people shy away from deep cleaning their gums because it could mean removing diseased gum tissue. However, dentists have developed LANAP as an alternative to using a scalpel.

LANAP allows dentists to remove diseased tissue with a laser, which means very little pain and almost no bleeding. You won't have to suffer through sutures and a lot of pain to have your gums treated.

Most people find after they undergo the LANAP procedure, they will be able to continue with their day. They can return to work, take care of their kids, or run errands without worrying about pain or bleeding.

This Doctor is a true healer!

Dr. Bembey is truly a healer. Not one of those Doctors who is in it for the money. You can tell that she loves her job. She actually made it enjoyable, and I don’t normally think of gum surgery as something to enjoy. She is very knowledgeable, and her skills are awesome! She communicates well and tells you small details that really help a lot. And she is there for you if you need her. Most importantly, she saved me from loosing my teeth! This Doctor is a GEM!!! I highly recommend her.
