Will I Need A Bone Graft If I Want Dental Implants?

Bone grafting is done when you have less bone to support an implant. If you have lost a tooth, then you will get bone grafting first before the implant procedure. Since you will have the implants in a surgical procedure into the jawbone. Visit our dental team and we will conduct an examination, conduct X-rays to determine whether you will need bone grafting before the implant procedure.

When Is Grafting Necessary

Grafting I done when you have lost bone density, then you are not a candidate for implants. The dentist will replace the missing tooth with dental implants and this will be by placing small titanium posts which the dentist will screw into the jawbone. This means that the jawbone must be dense and strong to support the implants. The bone grafting processing will increase the density of the jawbone and this will allow the dentist to place the titanium post in the perfect way.

Which Bone Will Be Used For Grafting?

The dentist can get bone from another part of the body and augment it with the old bone. There however new technological advancements that do not require using your bone. Some animal bones can be used and they will act the same way as human bones. The dentist will need to take X-rays of the bone so that the surgeon will create a plan on ways of augmentation. You will let the dentist know of your medical history so that the periodontist will know what procedures to avoid, the type of sedation for grafting and implants, and the prescriptions to give.

Visit our periodontal team and they will let you know if you are a candidate for dental implants or you need bone grafting.
